Fingerstyle Guitar Lessons
I am happy to offer the highest quality live online
fingerstyle guitar instruction to students around the world.
As a fingerstyle guitarist, I have extensive experience both as a performer and educator. For over two decades I have immersed myself in the music of Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges, Billy McLaughlin, John Fahey, and many others. My focus is on teaching, creating accurate transcriptions of fingerstyle repertoire, and primary research on the history and performance of fingerstyle guitar.
I have been an instructor for the Music of Leo Kottke Workshop since 2008 and, under the mentorship of John Stropes, have done extensive research on the music of Leo Kottke. I am also closely involved in the development of the Leo Kottke Archives Project.
As part of the requirements for a Master of Music in Musicology and Ethnomusicology at Northern Arizona University I completed my thesis in 2013 titled “The Finger-Style Guitar Music of Leo Kottke: Emerging Methodologies for Research, Transcription, and Pedagogy.” I have participated in master classes with Billy McLaughlin, Alex de Grassi, Pino Forastiere, and Pierre Bensusan.
I currently live in Boulder, CO and can often be found trekking up to the top of a 14er. I am also an avid trail runner. When not playing guitar I am training for the next ultramarathon.
